I am using a Tektronix TLA 704 Logic analyzer. This instrument failed after FOUR years use. It is a costly one; Tektronix came back to me when asked for maintenance support, saying that this model was no longer supported. Though computer based, this instrument components are very much product specific, BIOS is not upgradeable. The 1.4GB hard drive (laptop type) or the HDD adaptor was suspected faulty.

The system refused to recognise the original HDD and trying to find a cure with many diagnostic tools did not yield results. At this point I used the Micro-Scope on floppy to diagnose it and was able to find that several surface areas of the HDD were defective and further that the HDD controller is working. The BIOS does not accept new high capacity hard disks.

With Micro-Scope I managed to localize the bad areas of the drive and perform several partial low level formats and then rebuild a 1.0GB HDD out of the good space, which enabled a successful reinstall of the OS and applications.

Thanks to MicroScope. Nothing else would have saved me and the instrument is now back in operation, which is a great relief!
