Q. Can you use RemoteScope to " dial in " to a customer's computer onsite?

A. Yes, RemoteScope is primarily design for LAN and WAN topology in managing networks. It has the capability of remotely connecting to a client regardless where or how far they are and can also provide essential information of the client by gathering hardware and software inventory, including the operating systems.

Q. Can the console access the client for information or produce a report while this client is being used?

A. Yes, RemoteScope runs silently in the background regardless if there is a user or not working on the client machine.

Q. How does RemoteScope actively update the inventory or any new software added to the PC?

A: The console user simply needs to refresh his inventory to update the database. However with RemoteScope's new Task Management system, you can schedule to refresh the inventory on a daily or weekly basis automatically.

Q. Does the product have the capability of comparing software installed on PC's to a database of licenses - ensuring we are clean in terms of unlicensed software?

A: Yes. It will record software installed on each client PC. You will then need to tell RemoteScope how many licenses you have.

TOP

Q. Is it necessary or recommended for RemoteScope software to be run on a Server?

A. Although for earlier versions of RemoteScope (2.6 and below) it was not a requirement to run it on a server, we do now recommend that the later versions (3.0 and up) are run on a server.

Q. How does RemoteScope recognize software that is installed on a PC?

A. RemoteScope recognizes software through registry entries on Windows Programs. So all programs shown in the add/remove section of windows will be listed. It records hardware via Windows Registry as well.

TOP

Q. Can RemoteScope offer the same features via VPN?

A. Yes. Remote Scope can work over VPN. As long as the 2 networks connecting the VPN can establish a valid connection and translate each other's IP addressing, Remote Scope should be able to see the computers on both sites.

Q. Can RemoteScope monitor the network broadcasting over the entire System?

A. Remote Scope is not designed to monitor Internet traffic. What our product offers is a way to manage workstations and servers remotely and not to manage Internet activity.

TOP

Q. Do you have to install the client package to each computer?

A. Yes. This is a simple one-time process of installing the Remotescope's Client package, which has to be done on each system.

There are various ways to send this RemoteScope start-up file out across your network. The most common are via e-mail or to put the file on a shared directory. You can also script your network to run this file at log-on.

However once this is done, if there are updates then these can be remotely deployed using the Console.

TOP

Q. Is RemoteScope anything like PC Anywhere?

A. No, only the remote control function is similar - However, RemoteScope does this quicker and easier, and uses less bandwidth on the network. Plus it also has many other features not found in products like PC Anywhere. These include searchable hardware and software inventories, unattended remote rollout of new applications and updates.

Q. Can I use RemoteScope over a WAN?

A. Yes. RemoteScope is TCP/IP based and can be used over a LAN, WAN, dial-up or any other way you can access a Client with TCP/IP.

TOP

Q. Will it work through a firewall?

A. Yes. A port needs to be open through the firewall of course, and that port can be specified in the Client configuration.

Q. How can it work with dynamic IP addressing?

A. The Client can be addressed by computer name rather than static IP address, and the DHCP server at the remote end will recognise the Client's current IP address.

Q. How is it licensed?

A. By the number of seats (Client PCs).

TOP

Q. Is the inventory collected from the Client in real-time?

A. The inventory database is maintained on the Console and can be refreshed at any time. This means if the Client has a hardware failure, you don't have to make one trip to find out what was in it, and a second trip with the right part. Also, in case the Client has a hard-drive crash or an application accidentally deleted, you still have a complete record of the software.

Q. Can a client user install hardware or software without me knowing it?

A. No. The inventory information is collected right from the Registry on their machine, so if their operating system knows it's there, so will you.

TOP

Q. Can I schedule a client system shutdown using RemoteScope?

A. Yes, through the task management function you can schedule almost all of the RemoteScope features. This includes a shutdown or re-boot, scan-disc, disk defrag, software update, system back up and many others. The way RemoteScope does this is from the VB Scripting function.

Q. What is RemoteScope and why do I need it?

A. RemoteScope is a feature-rich, administrative software tool providing remote control, remote monitoring, software distribution / roll-out, and inventory control - all of which are vital for license management and asset tracking. Having all this in one simple - but very powerful package makes RemoteScope a must for all system administrators and network managers.
